It was fall in New Mexico. We gathered the cattle at dawn. Cows were separated from their calves. This young mother was turned out though a gate into a separate pen from her calf. As she was forced though the gate, she turned and bawled. The calf answered for the last time. The next day he was aboard a cattle truck, never to be seen by her again. I wondered, how long will she miss him?
It was “ MOMMA’S LAST GOODBYE”.
